Rising FC’s Jon Bakero named USL Team of the Week honorable mention

Phoenix Rising FC midfielder Jon Bakero was named as a USL Championship Team of the Week honorable mention selection for Week 4, the club announced Tuesday.
The team signed the Spaniard on loan from MLS club Toronto FC on March 6, and he made his PRFC debut in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.
Before being substituted for Josh Perez in the 88th minute of the match, Bakero completed 84.3 percent of his passes to go along with one assist and seven chances created, including this world-class attacking play:

Bakero, 22, played for FC Tucson under current Rising FC manager Rick Schantz in 2016 before playing at Wake Forest, where he was named the 2017 Hermann Trophy winner for being the best college soccer player in the country. He was selected fifth overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by the Chicago Fire, who would later trade him to Toronto FC.
This marks the third consecutive match in which a Phoenix Rising player has received Team of the Week honors after Junior Flemmings was an honorable mention and Solomon Asante was named to the Team of the Week in Week 1 and 2, respectively. PRFC did not play Week 3 due to a bye.
Phoenix Rising FC’s next match is April 6 against Fresno FC at Casino Arizona Field with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
