Phoenix Suns offense stays frozen in loss: By the Numbers

The Phoenix Suns spent their evening in chilly Colorado, and apparently couldn’t quite thaw out.

In a 122-97 loss to the Denver Nuggets Friday, the Suns were outscored in all but one period and seemed offensively frozen in the 20-point-per-quarter range.

Poor shooting plagued Phoenix early as they failed to connect time and again, and Denver capitalized by hitting the boards hard, outrebounding the Suns by almost 30 in the end.

And when Phoenix still struggled to rally, Denver turned on the gas and scored 56 points in the second half to seal it.

What’d the loss look like by the numbers?

5

Prior to Friday’s loss, the Suns had beat Denver five times in a row. That was snapped when Arron Afflalo’s 22 points led the Nuggets to victory.

21

Last season, Phoenix was able to rally behind Markieff Morris to overcome a 21-point deficit and beat the Nuggets, 103-99.

Tonight, Phoenix trailed by more than that throughout much of the game and could not surpass Denver despite having four players score in the double-digits.

38.8

The Suns only managed to hit 38.8 percent of their shots.

Eric Bledsoe led Phoenix with 16 points and Gerald Green scored 12, but all other scorers fell short and couldn’t cap off those workable numbers.

33

Denver hit 33 points in three consecutive quarters and outscored the Suns by at least eight through three periods.

Phoenix was finally able to outscore Denver in the fourth quarter, but it was only by a meager four points and couldn’t come close to the bloated deficit.

15-18

The Suns won the turnover battle, but still gave up the ball 15 times to Denver’s 18.

They also scored only 13 points off Denver’s 18 turnovers while Denver scored 17.

58-34

Denver completely dominated Phoenix on the glass, outrebounding the Suns 58-34. Forty-two of those were defensive rebounds — the Suns only managed nine offensive rebounds throughout the night.

122

The Nuggets’ high-scoring game boasted the most points the Suns have given up to an opponent this season, eclipsing the 120 points the Los Angeles Clippers dropped on Phoenix on Nov. 15.
