Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has long been a man for the community, as his Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2016 and his numerous other philanthropic endeavors suggest.

Fitzgerald continued that trend Monday, hosting a surprise shopping spree for 10 local Minneapolis athletes that attended his annual ProCamp at his alma mater high school, Academy of Holy Angels.

Each athlete was given $200 to spend at a local DICK’S Sporting Goods store.

The more than 800 kids attending the camp were able to do so through the Larry Fitzgerald Foundation First Down Fund, which received a $250,000 grant from DICK’S Foundation Sports Matter.

The grant went toward scholarships that included attendance for Fitzgerald’s camp, autographed souvenirs and more.

The DICK’S Foundation Sports Matter campaign is helping battle the youth sports funding crisis. Donations can be made to help the cause at sportsmatter.org.

The 35-year-old Fitzgerald will enter his 16th season with the Cardinals when training camp opens next week.
