Phoenix Rising FC’s Mustapha Dumbuya was named to Week 24’s USL Championship Team of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Club captain Solomon Asante was also named as honorable mention for his performance in Rising’s 4-2 victory over Reno 1868 FC on Friday.
It’s the first time in which Dumbuya has been recognized by the league this year, while Asante makes the ninth appearance of his MVP candidate 2019 campaign.
Dumbuya capped off an outstanding defensive performance (five of six duels won) with his first goal of the year.
The right back’s most impressive defensive contribution was his blocking of two Reno passes inside Phoenix’s box while caught by himself in a two-on-one.

Asante’s brace (both goals came from the penalty spot) brings his league-leading total to 18 on the year, one short of the team record for goals scored in a single season.
The Ghanaian also became the club’s all-time scoring leader, as his tally in a Rising uniform is now at 32.
Phoenix has now had a player receive a team of the week honor in 10 consecutive weeks, bringing the club’s tally to 18 total weeks on the season.
Rising returns to action on Friday night to host Sacramento Republic FC.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be audio-streamed on ArizonaSports.com.
