Phoenix Rising announced on Thursday that the team will be bringing back another player from its historic 2019 season.
This time around, it’s center back Joey Farrell.
Per club policy, the terms and details of the contract were not disclosed.
“I’m excited to bring Joey back to Phoenix Rising,” manager Rick Schantz said in a press release.
“His character, commitment, loyalty and desire to compete are top quality. Not only is he a great person, but a great defender. He is strong in challenges and gives our team the steel needed to win in the USL. He will no doubt help keep Phoenix Rising at the top.”
Farrell has spent the last two years in Phoenix — scoring six goals in that time — and is coming off of his best season in a Rising kit.
In 2019, the defender led the team in clearances (91) and finished third in aerial duels won (77) while scoring two goals and notching one assist in 26 appearances (21 starts).
He now joins goalkeeper Zac Lubin, midfielder Kevon Lambert and forward Solomon Asante as Phoenix’s only remaining players from the 2018 USL Championship Final squad.
Farrell also becomes the 12th signing for the club’s 2020 roster:
Goalkeeper: Zac Lubin
Fullbacks: Austin Ledbetter and Kyle Bjornethun
Center backs: Corey Whelan, A.J. Cochran and Joey Farrell
Midfielders: Kevon Lambert, Jose Aguinaga and Joey Calistri
Forwards: Solomon Asante, Adam Jahn and Junior Flemmings
