The Arizona Diamondbacks could have their eyes on power hitting Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant.

Per 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro, there have been “rumblings of the D-backs at least exploring a Kris Bryant trade.

“I can tell you they have discussed it and explored the options of trading for Kris Bryant,” Gambo told Bickley & Marotta on Tuesday.

Bryant makes $18.6 million annually, and is under team control for this season and next.

Bryant has put together an impressive resume as a member of the Cubs, averaging .284 with 751 hits, 138 homers and 403 RBIs, while slugging .516.

The third baseman has been an All-Star three of his five seasons in the league, won Rookie of the Year in 2015, earned NL MVP honors in 2016 and is coming off a 31-home run, 77-RBI season in 2019.

The move could essentially move Eduardo Escobar to second base, with Christian Walker holding down first. A Bryant trade would also likely put Ketel Marte in center field full-time.

With Bryant potentially in the mix, the D-backs would add more firepower to a team looking for an extra bat.

A trade for Bryant would undoubtedly give the D-backs one of their most noteworthy offseasons to date, with the team already signing Madison Bumgarner away from the San Francisco Giants and extending outfielder David Peralta three more years.
