Expectations remain high for the Arizona State baseball program.
ASU, which is ranked No. 9 in the D1Baseball preseason rankings, has two players on the site’s All-America Preseason Team.
First baseman Spencer Torkelson and shortstop Alika Williams are on the list.
Torkelson hit 23 home runs last season, which was tied for fifth in the NCAA Division I. He batted .351 and had a slugging percentage of .707.
He is the No. 1 draft prospect, according to Baseball America.
Williams slashed .333/.429/.474 with four home runs, 12 doubles and three triples. His 53 RBI last season were second on the team behind Torkelson’s 66. He is ranked as Baseball America’s No. 32 draft prospect.
The University of Arizona also had representation on D1Baseball’s All-America Team. Catcher Austin Wells was named to the second team.
Wells was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year last season after hitting 3.53 with 60 RBIs and 73 runs. He is Baseball America’s No. 20 prospect.
ASU finished 38-19 last season and are set to begin the 2020 season on Feb. 14 vs. Villanova. Arizona, which finished 32-24, will start the year the same day against Albany.
