Devin Booker, Elie Okobo make cameo in Drake’s ‘Chicago Freestyle’

Check another box off on Devin Booker’s “basketball stars who you know have made it big” list. Late Saturday night, rapper Drake released a duo of tracks — “When to Say When” and “Chicago Freestyle” — complete with a music video including a cameo of Phoenix Suns guards Devin Booker and Elie Okobo.

Before Drake drops into a rendition cut from Eminem’s 2002 hit “Superman,” Booker and Okobo are shown briefly at the 3:32 mark sitting around a table with dice as Drake raps:
Problem is, I meet a girl tonight
Then I go and treat her too nice
Galleria credit card swipes
I don’t even know if she a wife
Booker’s ties to one of the world’s top musical artists continues.

Booker ripped Drake’s cell phone gesture from “Hotline Bling” and turned it into a celebration of teammate Mirza Teletovic’s game-winning shot against (coincidentally) the Chicago Bulls in 2015. Drake has also donned Booker’s jerseys during his concerts in the Phoenix area.
Then in 2018, Drake dropped the line “Wet like I’m Book” during “Sicko Mode,” a song on Travis Scott’s “Astroworld” album.
Booker’s place as a cultural figure has grown beyond being buddy-buddy with Drake, of course. Nike has helped Booker’s rise with commercials, plus personal editions of basketball shoes and classic Air Force 1s as well.
On the court, Booker making his first NBA All-Star Game marked another checkpoint for the 23-year-old shooting guard who is averaging 26.0 points, 6.4 assists and 4.1 rebounds this season for the Suns.
As far as his latest appearance goes, it’s unclear when and where Booker was filmed. Most of the music video appears to be shot in New York and Chicago.
Also, shouts to Okobo, the second-year point guard who without much research is probably making his first appearance on a famous rapper’s music video.
