D-backs want to look internally before making trade

Jun 22, 2011, 4:27 PM | Updated: 5:43 pm

When Kevin Towers was hired as the general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks he had two goals in mind: get the team to play .500 or better baseball and develop a strong farm system.

So far, so good.

While many outside the organization are surprised to see the D-backs six games over .500, Towers thought highly of his club from the very beginning.

“I thought why couldn’t we be a .500 ballclub at least,” Towers said on Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf. “Then, when you get to .500 anything can happen. A lot of that was basing the Diamondbacks on the Padres, who I did have some history with. I said ‘if those guys can win 90 games with their offense, why can’t we?'”
