Heilman had to go, no way around that fact

The Diamondbacks released pitcher Aaron Heilman Tuesday, ending a period of time that the pitcher — and Diamondbacks fans — would like to forget.

Heilman went 4-1, but had an ERA of 6.88, a WHIP of 1.67 and a batting average against of .318. With the way the Diamondbacks are swinging the bats right now, they could only hope a team like Milwaukee or Colorado (the next two opponents) pick the veteran up.

“He’s not getting anybody out, you can’t have that guy,” John Gambadoro said on Sports 620 KTAR’s Gambo and Ash. “Hey, if you’re 10 games under .500 and you’re out the race and you want to try to get him right because you’ve got a little money invested in him that’s fine, but when you’re trying to win a division and get to the playoffs you can’t afford to put this guy out there.”

Unless, of course, it was garbage time, but as Mark Asher said on the show, “You can’t keep a guy on your roster for that.”

The Diamondbacks agreed.
