Inside the Box: Overbay rallies D-backs for comeback win

After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and

Inside the Box for
August 16, 2011: Diamondbacks 3, Phillies 2
The Good:
New addition Lyle Overbay made a major impact for the D-backs getting the big 2-RBI triple off Roy Halladay in the ninth inning to rally the team to a comeback win over the Phillies.
Overbay ended his night with three hits, all off Halladay.
Lost in the box score will be manager Kirk Gibson’s wise move to pinch-run Collin Cowgill for Miguel Montero in the ninth inning.
Montero wouldn’t have scored on Overbay’s hit as Cowgill barely beat Ruiz’s tag at home plate.
Starter Josh Collmenter turned in a solid start despite leaving the game trailing. He went six and 2/3 innings only giving up two runs.
The bullpen trio of Joe Paterson, Bryan Shaw and J.J. Putz pitched 2 and 1/3 innings of shutout baseball to hold down and then finish off the Phillies.
The Bad:
Collmenter pitched well, but had a lead of 1-0 before giving up a 2-run homer to Shane Victorino that almost proved to be the difference in the game before Arizona’s heroics in the ninth inning.
Sean Burroughs had a chance in the ninth inning to bring in an insurance run with a runner on third base and only one out, but he popped up stranding the D-back baserunner.
