Paul Goldschmidt, the next great first baseman?

Oct 6, 2011, 9:11 PM | Updated: 10:12 pm

Albert Pujols is the standard by which most elite first
baseman are judged, as the career .328 hitter with
exceptional power has been a force for the last decade.

Pujols has never hit fewer than 32 home runs in any of his
11 seasons, and has collected MVP awards and a World Series
ring along the way.

Could the Diamondbacks have a comparable player in Paul
Goldschmidt?

“I guarantee you Goldschmidt’s name will be mentioned in
that same top first base category as Albert Pujols in the
next couple of years,” former D-backs star Luis Gonzalez
told Arizona Sports 620’s Burns and Gambo.

Woah.

It sounds a little crazy but with the way Goldschmidt has
adapted to Major League pitching, crushing homers off elite
hurlers like Tim Lincecum, Cliff Lee and Zach Greinke, it’s
not totally unreasonable to think Arizona’s young star could
become one of the game’s best power hitters.
