Diamondbacks interested in Bartolo Colon?

Jan 13, 2012, 7:39 PM | Updated: 7:52 pm

Ian Kennedy, Daniel Hudson, Trevor Cahill and Josh
Collmenter will likely fill out the top four spots in the
Arizona Diamondbacks starting rotation, and that’s all
well and good.

It’s the fifth spot, though, that is undecided, and while
the team will likely promote Trevor Bauer or Tyler Skaggs
to the Majors at some point in 2012, there is no guarantee
either will be ready to go when the season begins.

Enter Bartolo Colon?

According to Jayson Stark of ESPN, the Diamondbacks are
interested in the 38-year-old pitcher.

Colon, who most recently pitched for the New York Yankees,
has a career 161-113 record with a 4.09 ERA. He won an AL
Cy Young Award in 2005 with the Angels, but has struggled
since then. In all he’s pitched for the Indians, Expos,
White Sox, Angels, Red Sox and Yankees.

Adding a pitcher with experience in the postseason could
be helpful for the D-backs, especially with a rotation
that will be among the youngest in baseball. While Colon
would not expected to carry the staff, the team could
probably do worse at the No. 5 spot in the rotation.
