D-backs manager Gibson considering sitting Justin Upton for a few days

Jun 5, 2012, 11:37 PM | Updated: 11:45 pm

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson knows he needs to get
right fielder Justin Upton going if his team is to have
any chance of competing for a playoff spot this season.

Upton, pegged by many as an MVP candidate entering the
season, is hitting just .243 on the season, and he’s
currently mired in a 4-for-28 slump.

Gibson gave Upton a day off in San Diego last Saturday,
and told Arizona Sports 620’s Burns and Gambo he’s thought
about resting him even more.

“I’m considering sitting him out today,” Gibson said
Tuesday. Gibson, in fact, is sitting Upton out of
Tuesday’s game against the Rockies. “I’ve asked myself,
should I give him four or
five days off and just tell him not to pick up a bat,
because I tell you, the kid is coming in there and he’s
working his tail off.”
