Bauer makes MLB debut in D-backs win

Jun 29, 2012, 4:37 AM | Updated: 5:44 am

Trevor Bauer, the No. 3 overall draft pick in 2011,
made
his highly-anticipated MLB debut Thursday night against
the
Atlanta Braves.

Bauer got off to a hot start, striking out Michael Bourn
to
start the game, and fanning two more in the second inning.

The third inning proved to be a test for Bauer. After
three walks and a double by Martin Prado, which scored a
run, Bauer escaped a bases-loaded two out jam with no
further damage.

The 21-year-old right-hander gave up another run in the fourth,
before
being pulled for a pinch-hitter in the top of the fifth
with the D-backs down 2-0.

Bauer did not receive a decision in his debut after he
was called up from Triple-A Reno earlier in the day to
take Joe Saunders’ spot in the rotation. Saunders (4-5,
3.44 ERA) was
placed on the disabled list with left shoulder inflammation.

The 21-year-old right-hander threw four innings, giving up
five hits and two earned runs with three strike outs in
74 pitches.

The Diamondbacks went on to win the game 3-2, fueled by
Chris Young’s tie-breaking home run in the ninth inning.

Bauer is expected to start again next Tuesday, when the
Diamondbacks take on the San Diego Padres at Chase Field.
