D-backs option Trevor Bauer to Triple-A

The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned pitcher Trevor Bauer to
Triple-A Reno Wednesday afternoon, and recalled relief
pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo to take Bauer’s roster spot.

Bauer, the third overall pick in the 2011 MLB First Year
Player Draft and the first member of that draft class to
reach the majors, struggled in the big leagues since
making
his debut June 28 against the Atlanta Braves.

The right-hander went 1-2 with a 6.06 ERA in 16.1 innings
of work over four starts.

“I don’t really hold being ‘a major league ballplayer’ in
super high regards,” Bauer said. “It doesn’t really hold
that much weight with me, I guess.

“I play this game because I love it and it’s a challenge.
I try to execute and get better every day at what I do. At
the end of the day it’s a job, so I try to get better at
my job.”

Albaladejo is currently second in the Pacific Coast League
with 17 saves while sporting a record of 3-1 and an ERA of
3.35. The 29-year-old has 65 games of big league
experience
on his roster with the Washington, New York Yankees and
Arizona.

But the story, of course, is Bauer, who said he’s
confident he’ll get past this.

“I know I’ll be fine and I’ll pitch for a long time,”
Bauer said. “I have no doubts about that. I have no doubts
about the fact that I can get major league hitters out and
I will get major league hitters out for a long time.”
