Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Tim Locastro has made a name for himself on the basepaths, successfully converting on his first 29 stolen base attempts, which is an MLB record to start a career.

Unfortunately for Locastro, that streak came to an end on Saturday in the 6-2 loss to the Washington Nationals. To add insult, he came up up from slide with an injury.

During the top of the third inning in Saturday’s contest, Locastro was caught stealing for the first time in his MLB career as Nationals infielder Starlin Castro tagged Locastro out at second base.

Locastro said after the game that he wasn’t sure if his fingers jammed into the bag or into Castro’s knee when he slid, but he immediately knew something was wrong.

“Saw it was not facing the right way,” Locastro said. “Looked down again and got worried and saw some blood.”

He got the finger straightened and received four stitches. It is now in a splint, and he is expected to land on the injured list.

Nationals catcher Yan Gomes was asked how he felt about stopping Locastro’s run.

“I kind of feel bad that I did,” he said with a smile.

Locastro was halted at 29. That just means it’s time for a new streak.

“Hopefully go for 30 the next run I have here,” he said.
