Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eduardo Escobar was ejected in the seventh inning of Sunday’s 4-2 loss to the New York Mets at Citi Field.
After Escobar struck out, he turned and looked back and clearly had some choice words for home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez as he walked toward the D-backs’ dugout.
Earlier in the count, Gonzalez had called a strike on a pitch that the third baseman felt should have been a ball.
Feeling the same frustration over the course of a tough stretch for the Diamondbacks, manager Torey Lovullo went out to back up Escobar and was ultimately tossed as well.
Since going on a 10-3 tear, the D-backs have lost all six games on the six-game road trip in Miami and New York.
The Diamondbacks return home to host the Marlins on Monday at 6:40 p.m.
