LISTEN: Daniel Hudson, D-backs pitcher

For Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Daniel Hudson, the road back from injury has brought him to an unexpected place: the bullpen.

Hudson has made 23 appearances from the bullpen this season with one save and five holds. Despite his success in a new role, Hudson has made it clear where he wants to be.

“It’s been no secret of mine that I’d like to get back in the rotation at some point,” Hudson told Burns & Gambo on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM.

It’s been an adjustment for Hudson, who made 53 starts in his three seasons with the D-Backs prior to injury troubles. Hudson thinks he is faring well with that adjustment though.

“For right now I’m really enjoying the bullpen role that I’m in,” Hudson said. “I’m really starting to get used to it.”

That adjustment for Hudson comes with his approach against hitters.

“It’s a different mentality as opposed to starting,” Hudson said.

If there’s one thing we know about Hudson is that he can overcome adversity. Hudson has had two Tommy John surgeries and is undergoing his first full-time season since 2011. He’s happy to be back with the team.

“Going on road trips is exactly like I remember it and I don’t have to watch from my couch,” Hudson said.

The goal on everyone’s mind has been getting to .500 and Hudson thinks it will come through more consistency.

“We haven’t put one of those streaks together where we will win seven out of 10 or win nine out of 11,” Hudson said.
