Veteran pitcher Noe Ramirez was reinstated from the Arizona Diamondbacks’ injured list Thursday after he was placed on it amid a series of moves on July 30 that, according to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, were COVID-19-related.
The D-backs opened a roster spot for Ramirez by optioning right-hander Humberto Castellanos to Triple-A Reno after he earned his first MLB victory as a starting pitcher and added two hits against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.
Ramirez was among the five players placed on the injured list on July 30. Arizona also placed outfielder Stuart Fairchild, reliever Joe Mantiply, pitcher Riley Smith and first baseman/outfielder Pavin Smith on the list at that point in response to a coronavirus-related issue, reported Gambadoro.
Fairchild on Thursday was also pulled off the injured list and assigned to Reno, according to the Diamondbacks.
Ramirez, 31, joined Arizona in mid-June after starting the year with the Los Angeles Angels.
He’s made 16 appearances for the D-backs, posting seven holds, a 2.40 ERA and a 0.73 WHIP over 15.0 innings.
The pitcher he replaces on the roster, the 23-year-old Castellanos, has appeared in nine games with two starts.
Castellanos owns a 2.14 ERA and 1.14 WHIP over 21.0 innings on the mound.
