Arizona Diamondbacks center fielder Ketel Marte exited Thursday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies due to discomfort in his right hip, the team announced.
Daulton Varsho came in for Marte in the top of the sixth inning, pinch-hitting for starting pitcher Zac Gallen as part of a double switch.
Marte had been on a hot streak during Arizona’s road trip, hitting.455 in the team’s last six games with three doubles, two homers and six RBI.
On the year, the infielder/outfielder entered play on Thursday batting .350 with a .956 OPS across 58 games.
Marte has missed significant time this season due to hamstring issues over two separate stints on the injured list. The first in his right hamstring had him sit from early April to mid-May, while the second was in his left hamstring that caused him to miss time from late June to late July.
Marte’s numbers are back on track with a sensational 2019 that saw him make the All-Star team and finish fourth in voting for the National League’s Most Valuable Player.
