Trevor Cahill took another step towards returning to the Arizona Diamondbacks rotation when he made his second rehabilitation start for Triple-A Reno on Monday night.

The right-hander struggled in the Aces’ 7-3 loss, surrendering six earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts through 4.1 innings. He gave up back-to-back home runs, including one to his counterpart, pitcher Sam Dyson.

Cahill has been sidelined with a right hip contusion since July 1.

Before he went on the disabled list, Cahill posted a 3-10 record with a 4.66 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 17 starts for the D-backs this season. Since coming to Arizona in 2012, the 25-year-old is 16-22 with a 4.07 ERA in 49 starts.
