Prior to the season finale against the Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder David Peralta was named the organization’s seventh annual Luis Gonzalez Award, the team announced.

The award is given to the D-backs players who best exhibits the talents, spirit and heart of Arizona legend Luis Gonzalez on and off the diamond. The award is voted on by teammates, coaches and staff members.

Peralta, 34, is the longest-tenured active D-backs players as he’s spent eight seasons in Arizona after making his debut in 2014.

As well as winning the Luis Gonzalez Award, Peralta is Arizona’s nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award for the first time in his career and is a candidate for the national award, given to the player who “best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement, and the individuals contribution to the to his team.”

Gonzalez is one of the most popular figures in D-backs history, remembered for the way he would interact with the fan-base and of course, his game-winning single in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series.

Previous Luis Gonzalez Award winners:

2015: INF Paul Goldschmidt

2016: INF/OF Chris Owings

2017-2018: INF Paul Goldschmidt

2019-2020: INF Eduardo Escobar
