PHOENIX — Darnell King is the captain now.
Phoenix Rising manager Rick Schantz on Monday announced that the right back will be donning the armband for the club this season.
King is replacing former captain Solomon Asante after the two-time league MVP wore the armband from 2019-21.
“It means a lot. This is a huge club,” King said. “When I came here, I knew that I’m following some big footsteps. I’m coming behind (Didier Drogba) and Solo.
“I’m super excited and overjoyed to try and lead the boys to something we haven’t done yet. Let’s go get this USL Championship.”
Monday night at The Churchill also featured the unveiling of PRFC’s 2022 kits.

This year will feature a slightly different variation, as there is no traditional white away strip.
Instead, there is the classic home red and away black, with two different goalkeeper jerseys.
And for the first time in club history, the GK kits — one of which is green and the other is blue — will be available to purchase by fans.
One of the two most eye-popping parts of this season’s jersey lineup is the gold Adidas stripes on the shoulders of the red home kit.
The other was the crest on the away black strip, which is an alternative red and white.
To go along with Carvana as the front sponsor and NAU as the sleeve sponsor, PRFC also has the option of alternating between black and red socks.
Phoenix Rising will debut its new kits on Saturday, as the club kicks off the season at home against USL newcomer Monterey Bay at 7:30 p.m.
