D-backs option Tyler Gilbert to Triple-A Reno, place J.B. Wendelken on IL

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced several roster moves ahead of Thursday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The team recalled right-handed pitcher Luis Frias and selected left-handed pitcher Tyler Holton from Triple-A Reno, while optioning LHP Tyler Gilbert back down to Reno.
Arizona also placed RHP J.B. Wendelken on the injured list and released LHP Oliver Pérez.
Frias has pitched in three games for Arizona this year, giving up one earned run in 3.1 innings pitched. He struck out three batters while walking five.
Holton has yet to make his big league debut. He went 2-0 over five starts with the Aces, posting a 6.75 ERA this season.
The rookie pitched eight innings over the five games in Triple-A, he struck out 10 batters, walked five and gave up six earned runs.
Wendelken, in his second season with the D-backs, has posted a 4.32 ERA over seven appearances out of the bullpen.
Gilbert has only appeared in two games (one start) with Arizona but has pitched well. His six strikeouts, two earned runs and two walks over 8.2 innings have resulted in a 2.08 ERA and .808 WHIP.
Perez was on his second stint in Arizona after playing in the Valley from 2014-15.
In his seven games with the D-backs, he posted a 15.75 ERA and 2.25 WHIP.
