The same cannot be said for the bullpen.

Entering Tuesday’s doubleheader, the D-backs bullpen had the third-worst ERA in Major League Baseball.

Things have been particularly bleak for their new closer Mark Melancon.

After leading the majors in saves in 2021, Melancon signed a two-year contract worth $14 million.

He entered Tuesday with an 8.49 ERA and a 2.14 WHIP.

Despite those numbers, he has converted on seven of his eight save opportunities.
