Whether you’re superstitious or not, the Opening Day outcome for the Arizona Diamondbacks can usually foreshadow the rest of the season.

When the Diamondbacks won their first game of a season, they finished with a record of .500 or better eight out of 10 times.

The Opening Day games they lost? Arizona went on to have a losing record in five out of seven of those campaigns.

This year, the Diamondbacks will look to get back on track against the San Francisco Giants on Monday at Chase Field. Before losing to Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers in Australia last season, Arizona had won seven Opening Day contests in a row.

This will be the 14th time in 18 seasons that Arizona will take on a division rival to kick off a new baseball year, but just the second time against the Giants. The previous Opening Day matchup between the two clubs was a thriller, as J.J. Putz closed the door on Arizona’s 5-4 comeback victory three years ago.

Here’s a look at each Opening Day game in the Diamondbacks’ 17-year history:

1998: Rockies 9, D-backs 2 – Bank One Ballpark
