Dolphins linebacker Karlos Dansby spent six seasons in Arizona before leaving as a free agent in 2009. He appeared in 90 games and topped 100 tackles in four of his six years with the Cardinals.
Sunday, he’ll face the team that drafted him in the second round (33th overall) in the 2004 NFL Draft for the first time.
He spoke to those of us in the local media on a conference call earlier:
on returning to Arizona
It’s going to be good. It’s going to be really good. It’s going to be fun. I have a lot of people coming. Family is going to be out there. It’s like old times.
It’s got a little special meaning because I’m going against guys that I had an opportunity to go against in practice, with (Larry) Fitzgerald, (LaRod) Stephens-Howling on third down, certain things like that. You get the opportunity now to do it for real.
on his former teammates
I don’t miss any of them guys. I’m just messing with you. Adrian Wilson is like my brother. We stay in contact. We have family outings and stuff. I come out there during the offseason and train a little bit. I see the guys around. It’s just routine.
on looking forward to the game
Man, we’ve been going back and forth about this game ever since the schedule came out. Me, (Wilson), Fitzgerald, Darnell (Dockett), we’ve seen each other out and about and we’ve been talking about this game. We knew it was on the horizon and now it’s coming to pass. I’m coming back and they’re going to see how much I’ve advanced or took a step back I guess. Whatever you want to call it.
I know (Wilson) is going to be talking trash the whole game, trying to get into my head the whole game but I’m not going to let that happen. I’m going to have fun with it and play hard and just do what I do, have fun out there.
on Daryl Washington, the player that replaced him
He’s a dynamic player. He’s a dynamic player, what more can I say about him. He’s a young guy, very athletic, very fast, reminds me of myself. He reminds me of myself. Makes a lot of plays. He helps the defense get set. He reminds me of myself. They did a great job of getting the guy to fill those voids.
