The youth movement has started for the Arizona Diamondbacks. It began after the trade deadline when the team sent outfielder David Peralta to the Tampa Bay Rays, which allowed Jake McCarthy to get regular playing time. But it has really ramped up this week with the promotion of Stone Garrett.
Garrett, a 26-year-old outfielder, got the call up from Triple-A Reno after spending eight seasons in the minor leagues and has done nothing but hit the ball hard in his first couple of games with the big-league club.
Top prospect Corbin Carroll also continues to impress in Reno, and should be a September call-up.
Between McCarthy, Garrett, Carroll, Alek Thomas and Daulton Varsho, the Diamondbacks are getting younger in their outfield alone.
Will they have enough playing time to split between them all?
Steve Zinsmeister and Cody Fincher explore what the future looks like for the next iteration of the “Baby Backs.”
