Doing it all: Cardinals’ Eno Benjamin takes over kickoff duties in win vs. Panthers

Oct 2, 2022, 4:12 PM | Updated: Oct 3, 2022, 8:58 am

Arizona Cardinals running back Eno Benjamin was a key contributor in the team’s Week 4 matchup against Carolina Panthers in more ways than one.

On top of pacing the Cardinals run game for most of Sunday, Benjamin added another wrinkle to his NFL resume in the 26-16 win: the title of kicker.

After kicker Matt Prater was a limited participant over the course of practice this past week, the Cardinals turned to Benjamin for kickoff duties in the second half against the Panthers.

Accounting for three kickoffs in the fourth quarter, Benjamin averaged 52.6 yards per kick.

He didn’t stop there, either, making a tackle on his first kickoff attempt.

Benjamin is the first Cardinals non-kicker to man kickoff duties since Pat Tillman in 2001. From one Arizona State Sun Devil alum to another.

In addition to Benjamin’s kicking stats, the running back ran the rock five times for 36 yards and returned two kicks for 43 more. He also caught a pass for nine yards. As a team, the Cardinals running game recorded 112 yards and a score on 29 carries.

While Benjamin took over kickoff duties, Prater still handled extra points and field goals in the final frame.

Prater was a perfect 2-for-2 on field goals and 2-for-2 on extra points.

The Cardinals move to 2-2 on the season.
