Arizona Cardinals offensive miscues compound in costly loss to Seahawks

Fox Sports reporter Pam Oliver said on the TV broadcast of Sunday’s Cardinals-Seahawks game that Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury wasn’t happy at halftime with the continued mistakes his offense made in the first half.

The Cardinals trailed 10-7 at the break after scoring on their opening possession, and their final drive of the half ended with a quarterback Kyler Murray fumble after he picked up a first down in Seahawks territory.

Arizona’s response in the second half with the ball was lackluster, as the unit netted a loss of two yards through the first 22 minutes after the break.

Arizona picked up one first down and Murray was sacked three times until the 7:31 mark of the fourth quarter.

Drops, pre-snap penalties and instances of Murray facing heat racked up to prevent the Cardinals from getting a sustained drive going.

The Cardinals’ offense came alive late in the fourth quarter, as Arizona scored a touchdown on a 14-play drive with 3:32 remaining in the game. The unit went up tempo, running back James Conner was heavily involved and Murray found tight end Zach Ertz for the score.

But it was too late. Seattle won 31-21.

On Sunday, Arizona finished with 12 penalties, including five false starts, while Murray was sacked five times.

The broadcast cameras caught a lot of conversations on the Cardinals’ sideline in the first half among offensive personnel.

Murray and DeAndre Hopkins were talking through something, and Kingsbury had much of the starters gathered at one point.

Kingsbury criticized his team for not playing clean football last week in a loss to the Minnesota Vikings, 34-26, and that play continued.

Seattle swept Arizona this season after defeating the Cardinals 19-9 in Week 6. Arizona is 0-3 in the division.

The Cardinals will look to bounce back next week against the Los Angeles Rams.
