Report: Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz out for season with knee injury

Nov 14, 2022, 2:27 PM | Updated: 2:29 pm

Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Ertz, 32, was visibly upset when he was carted off the field during the first quarter of Sunday’s 27-17 win over the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium.

His 2022 season ends with 47 catches on 69 targets for 406 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games.

All four of those metrics led the team, as Ertz was among quarterback Kyler Murray’s top options in the six games wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was suspended for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury and Co. will now turn to rookie TE Try McBride, who the team selected with the No. 55 overall pick in the NFL Draft earlier this year.

He had one reception on one target for seven yards against the Rams. McBride has a total of 31 yards on four receptions (four targets) in nine appearances this season (six starts).

The only other tight end on Arizona’s roster is sixth-year pro Stephen Anderson, who only has one reception on two targets in 10 games (no starts) in 2022.

Tight end Maxx Williams is currently on the Cardinals practice squad and could be activated to the 53-man roster for the team’s Monday Night Football game against the San Francisco 49ers in Mexico City.

Kickoff is set for 6:15 p.m. on Arizona Sports 98.7, the Arizona Sports app and ArizonaSports.com
