Phoenix Suns point guard Chris Paul is out for the fifth straight game due to right heel soreness.
The injury that will keep Paul sidelined for Friday’s matchup with the Jazz in Utah is one in which the team has listed Paul as questionable on the injury report prior to all five of the games.
Without Paul, the Suns have a 2-2 record entering Friday. His replacement, backup point guard Cam Payne, has been excellent.
Payne is averaging 20.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists while shooting 43.9% from the field in those four games.
Landry Shamet (concussion protocol) is out for the fourth game in a row, which should lead to another appearance for two-way guard Duane Washington Jr. in the rotation. The 22-year-old scored 21 points in 19 minutes of the Suns’ loss to the Miami Heat on Monday.
These injuries that are filed more under the day-to-day status came for the Suns while their wing rotation is taking a hit due to the more long-term absences of Jae Crowder (not with team) and Cam Johnson (torn meniscus).
Friday’s tip-off is at 7 p.m. and can be heard on Arizona Sports 98.7.
