It’s been a series of firsts for Arizona Diamondbacks top-overall draft pick Dansby Swanson in the last couple of weeks.
Swanson made his long-awaited professional debut for the Class-A Hillsboro Hops of the Northwest League on August 12. Three days later, he got his first pro hit — an RBI-triple in the second inning of a 10-9, 14-inning win over Vancouver.
Thursday night, Swanson connected on his first home run of the season, a three-run shot off of Boise’s Matt Meier in the bottom of the eigth inning. The shortstop’s blast provided all of the offense for Hillsboro in a 5-3 loss.
It should be the first of many for Arizona’s top prospect, who hit 15 home runs this season for Vanderbilt, the national runners-up at the College World Series. Swanson tied for the team lead in that category with Rhett Wiseman and Zander Wiel.
