The WM Phoenix Open announced on Thursday that Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Sam Burns have made their early commitments for the tournament in 2023.
Scheffler won the event last February en route to being named the 2022 PGA Tour Player of the Year.
“With the WM Phoenix Open being named a designated event, we have high expectations for showcasing the best field we’ve ever had,” tournament chairman Pat Williams said in a press release.
“We can’t wait to introduce the rest of the field as we get closer to the 88th edition of ‘The People’s Open.’”
A field of 132 players will compete for an increased purse of $20 million, a $3.6 million first-place check and 500 FedExCup points.
The annual tournament at TPC Scottsdale, which is the PGA’s most attended event on the tour, will take place from Feb. 6-12. The first round will commence on Thursday, Feb. 9 and a champion will be crowned on Sunday, Feb. 12.
The 2023 WM Phoenix Open will be the 88th edition of the tournament, which is one of the five oldest events on the tour.
The Thunderbirds, who were founded in 1937 “with the mission of promoting the Valley of the Sun through sports,” have helped the event raise over $176 million in charitable giving since the tournament’s inception in 1932, according to the release.
