Zack Godley’s fairy tale start to his career came to a crashing halt Friday.

The Arizona Diamondbacks rookie starter gave up six runs, four hits and six walks in 3.2 innings against the Chicago Cubs.

The July call-up from Double-A Mobile started with a 3-0 record in three starts with a 1.50 ERA. After going back to the minors and then coming back up in a relief role, Godley got another chance to impress in the rotation.

The Cubs didn’t allow him to do that. Godley had three straight walks in the first inning, two of which brought in runs. A simple sacrifice fly after that brought the run total to three, tying his worst run total of the season.

Two home runs from Cubs shortstop Addison Russell in the fourth inning had the run total climb to six. Godley’s day was over after another walk in the inning.

His control issues at Wrigley Field were something D-backs fans hand’t seen before. Godley’s six walks on Friday were more than his first three starts combined.
