It’s pretty rare that you see a tennis player disagree with a linesperson’s call that goes in their favor.
American Jack Sock gave us one of those rare moments.
In a match earlier this week at the Brisbane International in Australia, Lleyton Hewitt was serving. The first serve was called out by the linesperson. As Hewitt prepared for his second serve without comment, Sock interrupted his routine.
“That was in, if you want to challenge it,” he yelled across the court with a smile on his face.
Hewitt, seemingly in disbelief, smiled back and called for a challenge, which showed that the ball did clip the line and was in.
Hewitt was trailing 4-5 in the first set when the challenge occurred, but went on to win the match in straight sets.
Sock didn’t help his chances of winning, but this kind of sportsmanship doesn’t pop up very often.
