Calais Campbell is coming off a second consecutive Pro Bowl season.

He finished with 68 total tackles, five sacks, 13 QB pressures and 15 QB hits.

While perhaps not his best season, the 29-year-old was once again a key cog in Arizona’s defense, and the captain figures to reprise his role in 2016.

Or, maybe not?

Campbell is entering the final year of a five-year, $55 million contract extension signed in May 2012. He is set to have a base salary of $9.5 million and a salary cap hit of $15.25 million.

A second-round pick out of Miami in 2008, Campbell has spent his entire career with the Cardinals. In eight seasons, he has amassed 48.5 sacks while also proving to be stout against the run.

This past season, however, he often drew some criticism from head coach Bruce Arians, who was imploring his player to consistently reach a higher level of play.

It’s worth noting that NFL trades — especially those involving high-profile players — are fairly rare, so even if the Cardinals are indeed shopping Campbell the odds of a deal being reached would seem to be fairly slim.

However, if the team approached Campbell about restructuring his contract and he refused, it’s possible that the organization is at least trying to look into all of their options.
