The Arizona Diamondbacks made a pair of moves Sunday, placing catcher and outfielder Chris Herrmann on the 15-day disabled list and calling up Mike Freeman.

Like Herrmann, Freeman plays in the infield and outfield. The 28-year-old has yet to make his Major League debut after spending the past three seasons in Triple A-Reno. That will no longer be the case Sunday after the D-backs announced Freeman as the starting right fielder for their game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Freeman has been a consistent force in Reno, hitting .315 with 51 doubles and 90 RBI over those three seasons. In his 88 games this season for the Aces, Freeman is hitting .317.

Herrmann, also 28, will spend time on the DL because of a strained right hamstring after getting off to the best start of his career. His career-high statistics include hits, extra-base hits, RBI and batting average in only 54 games this season.

Freeman figures to fill in the versatile role of Herrmann, who played 30 games at catcher, nine in the outfield and two in the infield.

Catcher Tuffy Gosewisch, who missed out on the Opening Day roster, was called up in the beginning of July and has made two starts since, backing up regular starter Welington Castillo.
