The Arizona Cardinals announced Monday they have released third-string quarterback Zac Dysert and signed offensive lineman Martin Wallace to the practice squad.

The former would indicate that starting quarterback Carson Palmer is all but cleared to play this week when Arizona faces the New York Jets on Monday Night Football.

“He should clear protocol in the morning,” head coach Bruce Arians told Bickley and Marotta Monday on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. “(Palmer) and Kevin Minter both are in the last stage of clearing protocol and ready to go. He’ll get an extra day of practice. He should be more than ready to roll.”

Dysert, who was on the practice squad most of this year, beat competitor Aaron Murray for the effective third-string quarterback job to begin the regular season before he spent one week on the Cardinals’ active roster. He was promoted to the active roster heading into Arizona’s Week 5 game against the San Francisco 49ers because Palmer missed the game due to the league’s concussion protocol.

Palmer is expected to be cleared this long week, well in time to prepare him for the Cardinals’ Monday game against the New York Jets.

Dysert, who was the backup behind Drew Stanton this past week, has still not thrown an NFL pass. He has been a member of six NFL teams since being picked out of Miami (Ohio) by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round of the 2013 draft.

Arizona could still resign Dysert to the practice squad.

Wallace, who is 6-foot-6 and 311 pounds, entered the league in 2013 as a rookie free agent out of Temple. He played with the Cleveland Browns his first season.

He played on the practice squads of the Carolina Panthers in 2014, and then with the Buccaneers and Broncos practice squads last year.

Wallace was released by Chicago on Aug. 28.
