Cardinals may be comfortable with Roberts and Doucet, but is Fitzgerald?

Three years ago the Arizona Cardinals featured a trio of 1,000 yard receivers, as Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston helped Kurt Warner torch opposing secondaries on the way to Super Bowl XLIII.

Only Fitzgerald remains, though, and while the Cardinals appear to be content with their group of receivers, one of the in-house candidates emerging as the No. 2 wideout may not sit well with the Pro-Bowler.

“It’s probably going to be Andre Roberts or Early Doucet or even Chansi Stuckey,” Cardinals analyst Ron Wolfley said on Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf show Thursday. “That’s not going to represent a lot of aide and comfort to Larry Fitzgerald out there.”

It may not. Gone are players who the team could rely on and in their place are guys who, while having flashed potential, have not proven they can do the job over the course of a 16 game NFL season.

To put it in perspective even more, Breaston, now with the Chiefs, had a down season last year, tallying just 47 receptions. Well, Doucet and Roberts combined for 50.

Then again, as the Cardinals get set to open the preseason much of their outlook is tied to players who, while talented, are not exactly proven commodities.

And Fitzgerald seems comfortable with his new (unproven) QB, so he should probably be sure to give his receivers a chance, too.
