PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants were forced to stop play one batter into their game Thursday due to a swarm of bees at Chase Field.

Following Angel Pagan’s fly out to A.J. Pollock in right-center, D-backs skipper Kirk Gibson approached the umpires about a swarm that had congregated near the “Fry’s” ad in centerfield.

Though Pollock made the play, it was clear the bees were a distraction.

Play was stopped for a few minutes, as starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo meandered around the pitcher’s mound. During the hitch, the Diamondbacks game operations’ staff opted to play songs “Let it Be” and “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” over the PA system while the situation was being sorted out.

Play resumed shortly thereafter.
