Report: Tigers inquire about Brad Ziegler, D-backs ‘inclined to keep him’

Jul 20, 2014, 12:05 AM | Updated: 10:46 pm

The Arizona Diamondbacks might be sellers at the upcoming July 31 trade deadline, but at least one player will likely be staying put.

According to the FOXSports.com’s Jon Morosi
, the Detroit Tigers have inquired about the services of right-handed reliever Brad Ziegler only to be met with resistance on the other end.

As Morosi put it, the D-backs are ‘inclined to keep him.’

The report is not all that surprising given that it comes just two days after team president and CEO Derrick Hall spoke glowingly about the 34-year-old during an appearance on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s Doug and Wolf.

“He’s impossible to replace,” Hall said Thursday. “We saw how bad our team was back in ’08, ’09 and ’10 when we didn’t have a bullpen and how critical it is to have guys who can come in and hold a game in the seventh or eighth or even close if you need them to due to injury in the ninth — Brad’s done all of that.

“He could probably command a lot in return, but he’s just too valuable.”

In 2014, Ziegler has made a National League-high 51 appearances, posting a 4-1 record with a 2.50 ERA in the process.
