Reid Maurice is a junior on the baseball team at Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix, and he has been named the April finalist for the Fulton Homes Character Counts award.
Maurice, 17, said he trains year-round for baseball, working to continually improve as an athlete.
The right fielder spent his past summer with his 21-year-old brother, Ethan, as the two rode their bicycles across the country to raise money for Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
The two brothers pedaled from Virginia to Oregon and raised $96,000 for the hospital. Maurice said they chose PCH because Ethan was treated there four years prior for a life-threatening illness.
