Notes from the Nest: Arizona Cardinals practice – Dec. 12

Dec 12, 2013, 11:44 PM | Updated: 11:44 pm

TEMPE, Ariz. — It was coordinators day out at practice so we got a chance to talk with Harold Goodwin and Todd Bowles.

Of Note

– Michael Floyd was limited in practice and Rob Housler was held out for a second consecutive day.

– Carson Palmer was once again limited, but Goodwin said “he looks fine to me.”

– Bowles was asked if the Titans’ Chris Johnson is the best running back his team will face this season. “I couldn’t tell you that until after the game,” he said. Makes sense.

– Like his coach earlier in the week, Larry Fitzgerald said having a winning season won’t matter if the team doesn’t make the playoffs.

Stat of the Day

The last 22 passes Michael Floyd has caught have resulted in first downs. In fact, 24 of his last 25 receptions have gone for first downs.

Quote of the Day (a tie)

“I remember in 2008, 24 years old, and I’m thinking this is going to be something that’s going to happen a lot, continuously every single year,” Larry Fitzgerald said of making the playoffs. “And you realize that there’s no guarantees in this business and when you have your opportunity you’ve got to make the best of it, and we have an opportunity right now.”

“It’s unbelievable,” Bowles said when asked to describe Karlos Dansby’s season. “It’s like Playstation. He’s making plays all over the place, he’s scoring. It seems like every time he intercepts the ball it’s the same part of the field going the same way. He’s leading everybody, understands where the plays are going. He’s having fun and it’s rubbed off on the rest of the defense.”

This Day in Arizona Cardinals History

On Dec. 12, 1992, the Cardinals earned their fourth win of the year by way of a 19-0 win over the New York Giants.

Given the final score, you’d assume the Cardinals’ defense dominated the day. You’d be right.

Eric Swann got the scoring started when he sacked Giants QB Dave Brown in the end zone for a second quarter safety.

Johnny Johnson reached the end zone twice, on a five-yard run and a 42-yard run, and a 26-yard Greg Davis field goal accounted for the rest of the scoring.

Cards QB Chris Chandler completed 12-of-18 passes for 130 yards, while Johnson tallied 156 yards and two scores on 36 carries.

The Cardinals held the Giants to 131 total yards of offense, including just 61 via the air. They intercepted the Giants’ other QB, Kent Graham, twice, and also recovered a fumble.
