Arizona State golfer John Rahm will play in the upcoming PGA TOUR tournament at the 2015 Waste Management Open after receiving the second of five available sponsor exemptions.
Rahm, who is currently ranked third in the World Amateur Rankings, helped Europe win the Palmer Cup in the 2013-14 season with three-and-a-half points out of four and also won the Spanish Amateur Championship before going on to represent Spain in the World Amateur Team Championship, which he won individually after breaking Jack Niklaus’ 72-hole record (set in 1960).
The 6-foot-3 junior from Barrika, Spain has a 70.87 stroke average in 31 career events, and 40 rounds in the 60s. He has posted par or better in 57-of-95 career rounds and already has 22 eagles in 83 career rounds.
He was also formerly named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year.
The Waste Management Open will take place from Jan. 26 – Feb. 1 at TPC Scottsdale.
