The Arizona Diamondbacks were reeling entering Tuesday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds, taking a five-game losing streak into Great American Ball Park.

All the D-backs needed were some extra-base hits.

Ok, maybe that’s the goal for any hitter walking to the plate, but that approach certainly worked for the D-backs Tuesday night in their 11-2 victory.

Arizona broke a franchise record with nine different D-backs recording an extra-base hit in the game.

This surpassed their previous record of eight, which they had accomplished six different times, with the most recent happening June 20, 2012, against Seattle.

A.J. Pollock, David Peralta, Paul Goldschmidt, Jake Lamb, Chris Owings, Brandon Drury, Daniel Descalso, Chris Herrmann and Reymond Fuentes.

Those were the nine players able to hammer the Reds pitching staff with extra-base hits. The first eight all started the game, with Fuentes coming in later on a double-switch for starter Robbie Ray, so technically, all nine spots in the order were able to deliver at least a double in the contest.

According to their communications team, the Diamondbacks also set a new franchise record with their six extra-base hits alone in the fifth inning of the game (four doubles, one triple and a home run). Arizona had managed five extra-base hits in an inning eight times previously, most recently doing so on May 15 vs. the New York Mets.

This was a much needed performance by the D-backs offense and Ray, who have seen their wild card lead dip dramatically with the Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs right on their tail.

Ray tossed six innings of two-run, four-hit baseball, getting the win to improve to 9-4.

Peralta (3-for-5), Goldschmidt (1-for-1 with four walks), Descalso (1-for-2 with two walks) baffled the Reds pitching staff all game, with Herrmann chasing Cincinnati starter Sal Romano in the fifth with a two-run home run.
