Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer left to the locker room with a broken left arm suffered Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams in London.

Coach Bruce Arians told 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s Paul Calvisi that Palmer will undergo surgery and miss “probably, at least” eight weeks.

Palmer was replaced in the second quarter by backup Drew Stanton after throwing an interception and taking a hit on the play. Palmer was seen by FOX sideline reporter Kristina Pink running to the locker room not moving his left arm.

Arizona fell to 3-4 on the season with the 33-0 loss.

Stanton, who Arians said will start the Cardinals’ Week 9 game at the San Francisco 49ers, completed 5-of-14 passes for 62 yards and an interception against the Rams.

“It wasn’t quite fair to Drew because he hasn’t practiced in a few weeks, probably a month,” Arians said. “We’ve always got a lot of confidence in Drew, he’s beaten that team before.

“Drew’s our backup. Blaine will get his shot if necessary,” Arians added.

The Cardinals had third-string quarterback Blaine Gabbert inactive for the Week 7 game, so he was not available to play. He will move into the backup slot, Arians said.

Palmer had completed 10-of-18 passes for 122 yards, no touchdowns and the pick.

For the year, Palmer had completed 62 percent of his passes for 1,856 yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions, working for much of the year behind an injury-riddled offensive line and supplemented by the NFL’s worst rushing attack by yards per carry.

Before he was injured, Palmer had seen increased pressure from the Rams at Twickenham Stadium. He’d taken four quarterback hits and one sack by Aaron Donald.
