2015 Super Bowl to be played in Arizona

Oct 11, 2011, 4:46 PM | Updated: 9:40 pm

The NFL awarded the 2015 Super Bowl to Arizona Tuesday.

“I’m hopeful the owners were influenced by how they were
treated in 2008. I’m elated and relieved,” chairman of the
Super Bowl host committee Mike Kennedy said. “It’s a huge
team effort for this to happen the Cardinals, cities and
the state. Just a lot of things fall into place.”

Super Bowl XLIX will be the state’s third time hosting the
big game, the most recent being in 2008. That game pitted
the undefeated New England Patriots against the New York
Giants in a game that went down to the very end to
determine
a winner.

Arizona was chosen over Tampa Bay, which most recently
hosted Super Bowl XLIII. That one, of course, is familiar
to Cardinals fans because their team was in it.

“It was a great experience in 2009 when the Cardinals lost
to the Steelers in the Super Bowl in Tampa,” Kennedy said
of Tampa Bay. “They have a lot to offer. This wasn’t a
case of the haves and have not’s. This was a case of two
haves. Two regions that are legitimately in the Super Bowl
business.”

Landing the Super Bowl will surely be a boon to the
economy, coming at a great time for the Valley.
