Eric Gordon signs offer sheet from Suns

Now that the moratorium on player movement in the NBA is
over, the Phoenix Suns were able to move forward and sign
restricted free agent guard Eric Gordon to an offer sheet.

Arizona Sports 620’s own John Gambadoro reported it would
happen Wednesday, and it did.

With the offer being signed the possibility of a sign-and-
trade deal with New Orleans is over, as now the Hornets
have three days to either match the offer and keep the
guard or let him leave for Phoenix.

As Gambadoro said, though, a sign-and-trade wasn’t really
a possibility anyway.

However, New Orleans head coach Monty
Williams made an interesting comment
to Times-Picayune
reporter John Reid about Gordon’s insistence that he
doesn’t want to play for the Hornets.

“I think Eric is just in a weird situation right now, I
told you guys from Day 1 with him he’s always talked about
being here and all of this stuff has come out of the
blue,” Williams said.

“It’s not a contradiction, I just think when you’re going
through free agency and you’re talking about that kind of
money certain things are said and felt. But I think when
the dust settles we’ll hear more of the truth of where he
wants to be. At the same time, I’m not going to back off
that stance, we want people that want to be here. If you
don’t want to be here, then we have to make some
adjustments.”

With a sign-and-trade deal no longer a possibility, one
has to wonder if the Hornets will indeed pull an about-
face
and choose not to match the Suns’ offer for the
disgruntled guard.
